Reduction of Nukes

Hi,

Russia and the USA have met an agreement to cut their nuclear warheads and set an example to other countries the nuclear power. There is also a conference of leaders of many countries in Washington DC for a nuclear conference that the US president Barack Obama called. China has agreed to help curb Iran's nuclear power. Obama also met with some key figures prior to the meeting which started on Wednesday NZT.

Danish Dolphin Murders

The people of Denmark have a 'festival' each year. It includes killing 100's of dolphins. 80% of the residents of Copenhagen cycle wherever. But that isn't an excuse to kill the poor dolphins.

The Humpback Whales are back!!

In other news (not about climate change or global warming) the Humpback Whales population is rising. Which means it may not be endangered and so it can be taken off the endangered spesies list. Now the Federal Government from Honolulu is considering to do just that.

Greenpeace Activists off the coast of Tauranga

Greenpeace protesters were prosecuted by the police on 16/09/09. They were showing their hatred towards the effect that the imported goods which were palm kernel extracts for stock were being sent to Fonterra Farmers. There were 17 protesters and 2 were arrested.

It is easier to chop down trees in NZ now

The New Zealand Government is making it easier for people to chop and trim trees. The bill will be passed this week and allows any tree that is in the way of something to be chopped or trimmed. This will also reduce the power the local councils have. Previously people were allowed to cut down a tree if it was a health issue and they needed permission from the local council.

This is depressing for tree-huggers. But it is only a bill and is far from being a law so things can change.
